Philosophy of Science and the Development of Economics

Economics as a science has become a highly debated issue in the 20th and 21st centuries. One of the reasons is that the development of economics as a field in its own right has been phenomenal in the last century. The criteria to separate science from pseudoscience have also become more stringent in order to restrict nonsense in academic and professional fields. This two-part paper overviews the dominant philosophies of science that pertain to economics, and explores the historical development of economics as a rational science.
